Music

Music is taught across all year groups in our school.  Music is an important subject for all of our children, as it enables them to explore music and its composition, as well as develop key skills and knowledge. We want to encourage our children to develop a love for music, giving them the opportunity to become creative and artistic individuals.

At Morice Town Primary Academy, we want our children to receive an engaging music curriculum, which teaches them the basic skills and knowledge needed to access a secondary curriculum. We understand that Music is a subject in which children can flourish and enjoy without the pressures of core subjects. Therefore, we also want our children to have the opportunity to explore their talent within lessons and outside of lessons. We aim to build confidence and resilience within this.

Teachers use the Charanga Music scheme to deliver Music lessons. They are expected to adapt this where necessary to meet the needs of the class and deliver a broad curriculum, where the children have the opportunity to make links between their work and others. Charanga Music School is designed with a spiral curriculum, meaning that the children's musical knowledge is consolidated and built on as they progress through the school. Year 3 children have the opportunity to learn how to play an instrument through First Access Music tuition. More opportunities to perform within and outside of school will be created. 

In our EYFS, our children also access their learning through Charanga. They are able to explore and develop a love for music through singing nursery rhymes. As they progress through the year, they start to explore the use of instruments.

Lessons are adapted to enable all pupils to access their learning, including pupils with SEND.
